Grades 6-12. With this kit students learn about gas-forming chemical reactions by creating gas-powered rockets. After creating a simple rocket powered by the reaction between acetic acid and calcium carbonate, students modify the reaction and the design of the rocket tube to maximize altitude. In a classroom competition, student teams learn the real-world implications of the engineering design process. Kit materials support 15 student teams, and the challenge requires 1 to 2 class periods.
