Students study the chemical reactivity, water solubility, and pH of 5 types of organic compounds: alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, aldehydes, and carboxylic acids. Students then determine the identity of 2 unknown organic compounds. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in pairs. Materials needed but not supplied include fifteen 96-well Microplates (item# 840721) and 15 mL concentrated sulfuric acid.
